Coffee
Whole bean coffee is universally packaged in paper bags lined with LDPE, PVC, or PET which protects the printed paper from grease stains by the beans.
Today, most coffee is sold in the form of ground beans or soluble ground product. Most soluble varieties are packaged in rigid containers of metal, glass, or plastic, while about 50% of ground bean coffee is flexibly packaged. Ground beans require an excellent barrier component in their package and fail, metallized films, PET, or nylon provide this, combined with LDPE or ionomers for heat sealing.
Across food service establishments, single portions of soluble coffee are offered in foil, small paper, LDPE, LDPE, as well as pouches.
